Wenger expects Sagna to commit to Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that defender Bacary Sagna could sign a new deal with the club in the coming weeks.

The France international's current contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season, but, as exclusively revealed by Goal, the north Londoners reopened negotiations with the right-back in August.

Wenger is confident Sagna will extend his stay at the club, having joined from Auxerre in 2007, and believes his renewal could provide a “great boost”

“That [Sagna's contract] could be decided in next two weeks,” Wenger told reporters. “It looks positive. It would be a great boost, of course.”

The 30-year-old defender has made over 250 appearances for Arsenal in his six seasons at the club, scoring four times in the Premier League.

Sagna had missed three games with a hamstring problem, but returns to the Gunners' starting XI for Saturday's clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, replacing Carl Jenkinson
